Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has reportedly stated that appealing directly to President John Dramani Mahama would not change the situation of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, insisting that the President has no role in his incarceration.
According to the Minister, any attempt to plead with President Mahama for Wontumi’s release would not affect the legal process because, in his view, the President is not responsible for the businessman and politician’s current detention.
Is Wontumi Appealing to Mahama?
The comments have sparked fresh political discussions, particularly amid questions over whether Chairman Wontumi or his representatives have actually appealed to President Mahama for intervention.
However, the claim that Wontumi is “begging Mahama” remains a subject of political commentary and should not be treated as confirmed unless supported by an official statement from Wontumi or his legal team.
The development has nevertheless attracted attention because of Wontumi’s previously strong public criticism of President Mahama.
From “Not Afraid of Mahama” to Calls for Help?
Wontumi has in the past made bold political statements about his relationship with Mahama, including remarks suggesting that he was not intimidated by the former president.
The latest comments have therefore generated debate among political observers and social media users, with some questioning whether the current circumstances represent a significant change in the political narrative surrounding Wontumi and Mahama.
Political Reactions Continue
The situation has become another talking point in Ghana’s ongoing political discourse, with supporters and critics offering different interpretations of the remarks.
While Ofosu’s comments place emphasis on the legal and institutional processes surrounding Wontumi’s case, questions remain about the exact nature of any alleged appeal for presidential intervention.
Did Chairman Wontumi really appeal to President Mahama for help, or is this simply political commentary?
