Democracy Cup Trophy Tour
The presentation formed part of the ongoing Democracy Cup trophy tour to key state institutions.
The initiative is intended to strengthen collaboration between Parliament and institutions such as the NCCE while using sports as a platform to promote democratic values, national unity and peaceful civic engagement.
During the engagement, Mr. Djietror also formally invited the NCCE Chairperson, Kathleen Addy, to attend the much-anticipated Democracy Cup encounter between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.
The match is scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday, August 28, 2026.
NCCE Pledges Support
The NCCE Chairperson, Kathleen Addy, pledged the Commission’s support for the Democracy Cup initiative.
She indicated that the NCCE would help create awareness around the event and encourage citizens to embrace the broader objectives of the match.
Ms. Addy also commended Parliament for presenting the trophy to the Commission, describing the gesture as a demonstration of Parliament’s recognition and appreciation of the NCCE’s role in promoting civic education, democracy and national development.
Football as a Tool for Democracy
The Democracy Cup is expected to provide more than just a football spectacle, with organizers seeking to use the event to promote unity and encourage citizens to participate positively in Ghana’s democratic process.
The collaboration between Parliament and the NCCE further highlights the potential of sports to bring citizens together while creating platforms for civic education and national dialogue.
As preparations continue, football fans and stakeholders are looking forward to the clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
