Outgoing Majority Leader Calls for Equal Justice and Accountability in Ghana

Outgoing Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has called for greater accountability among politicians, arguing that elected officials must not consider themselves a special class of people who can commit crimes and escape punishment.

Speaking on the need for equal application of the law, Ayariga said politicians should be held to the same standards as ordinary citizens when allegations of wrongdoing arise.

“We should not consider ourselves as politicians, as being in a special class that can commit crimes and get away with it, when those who steal goats, fowls, and guinea fowls are sent to jail,” he stated.

Call for Equal Treatment Under the Law

Ayariga’s comments highlight the importance of ensuring that Ghana’s justice system applies equally to everyone, regardless of political position, status or influence.

He argued that being a politician should not provide protection from accountability when an individual is accused of breaking the law.
