Accra, Ghana – The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has officially opened the 2026 Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Regional Commanders’ Conference at the GIS Centre of Excellence in Accra.
The five-day conference, which commenced on Monday, July 6, 2026, has brought together regional commanders and senior officers of the Ghana Immigration Service under the theme “Strengthening Command Synergy for Sustainable Growth.“
Conference Focuses on Stronger Leadership and Collaboration
The annual conference aims to strengthen coordination, communication, and cooperation among regional commands while enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Ghana Immigration Service.
Addressing participants, Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak emphasized the importance of strong leadership, teamwork, and strategic collaboration in improving border security, migration management, and national security.
He encouraged commanders to work collectively in implementing policies that will enhance the Service’s efficiency and contribute to Ghana’s overall security architecture.
GIS Leadership Commits to Sustainable Growth
The opening ceremony also featured remarks from the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, who highlighted the importance of unity and professionalism in achieving the Service’s strategic objectives.
According to the CGI, strengthening command synergy remains essential in responding effectively to evolving migration trends, transnational crime, and border security challenges.
He urged all regional commanders to embrace innovation, discipline, and collaboration to improve service delivery and operational excellence.
GIS Governing Council Calls for Continued Institutional Development
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the GIS Governing Council, Mrs. Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa commended the Ghana Immigration Service for its continued commitment to protecting Ghana’s borders and promoting national security.
She encouraged participants to use the conference as an opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and develop practical strategies that will improve the Service’s performance nationwide.
