England midfielder Jude Bellingham has praised Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare for his outstanding display in their World Cup clash, insisting the Black Stars shot-stopper was the player who truly deserved the Man of the Match award.
Speaking after the game, Bellingham admitted that although he received the accolade, he believed Benjamin Asare was the standout performer on the night following a series of crucial saves that denied England victory.
“To be honest, I did NOT deserve the Man of the Match award. In my view, it should have gone to the Ghana keeper, Benjamin Asare,” Bellingham said.
The England star went on to describe Asare’s performance as exceptional, noting that the Ghana goalkeeper repeatedly came to his side’s rescue during key moments of the game.
“He was exceptional today. He saved Ghana a couple of times, didn’t he? We threw everything at them, but he was just a wall back there,” Bellingham added.
Benjamin Asare Shines for Ghana
Benjamin Asare’s heroics between the posts proved vital for Ghana as the Black Stars held firm under heavy pressure from England. The goalkeeper produced a number of impressive saves to keep Ghana in the contest, frustrating England’s attacking line throughout the match.
His commanding presence, sharp reflexes, and calmness under pressure quickly made him one of the most talked-about players after the final whistle, with many fans and analysts praising his performance.
Bellingham’s comments have now added even more weight to calls from supporters who believe Asare should have been officially named the game’s best player.
Bellingham Reflects on England’s Performance
Bellingham also shared his thoughts on England’s approach to the match, explaining that the team focused on moving the ball quickly in an attempt to break down Ghana’s compact defensive shape.
According to him, England expected Ghana to sit deep and make spaces difficult to exploit, but despite creating chances, they were denied repeatedly by Asare’s brilliance in goal.
“Just to keep moving the ball quickly, really. We knew they’d defend deep and compress the spaces,” Bellingham explained.
“We created the chances, but like I said, when a keeper puts in a performance like Asare did tonight, you just have to give him his credit. We take the point and focus on the next group game.”
Ghana Fans Celebrate Asare’s Display
Benjamin Asare’s performance has since sparked excitement among Ghanaian football fans, many of whom have taken to social media to celebrate the goalkeeper’s display against one of the tournament favorites.
Supporters believe the Black Stars can build on the result as they continue their FIFA World Cup campaign, with Asare emerging as one of the team’s key figures going forward.
His performance against England is already being viewed as one of the standout individual displays by a Ghanaian player at the tournament so far.
Focus Shifts to Next Group Game
With the draw secured, attention now turns to Ghana’s next group stage fixture as the Black Stars aim to push for qualification to the knockout stages.
For now, however, much of the praise belongs to Benjamin Asare, whose brilliant goalkeeping display not only earned admiration from Ghana fans but also from one of England’s biggest stars in Jude Bellingham.
