Ghana’s Finance Minister has begun engagements with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry as government shifts its focus from economic stabilisation to large-scale transformation under the New Economy agenda.
The Finance Minister of the Republic of Ghana has commenced engagements with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry as part of efforts to advance the government’s New Economy agenda.
The engagement forms part of a broader economic strategy aimed at moving Ghana beyond the stabilisation phase and toward structural transformation, increased production, job creation, and improved living standards.
From Economic Stabilisation to Transformation
The Finance Minister stressed that economic stabilisation should not be viewed as the ultimate destination for Ghana’s economy.
According to the Minister, stabilisation was necessary to restore confidence and create the conditions required for the next phase of national development.
“Stabilisation was never the destination. It was the price of entry.”
The Minister said Ghana has now paid that price and must focus on the more challenging task of transforming the economy in ways that deliver meaningful benefits to citizens.
New Economy Agenda Takes Centre Stage
The New Economy agenda is expected to place greater emphasis on productive sectors of the economy, including trade, agribusiness, industry, manufacturing, technology, and value addition.
The engagement with the Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Ministry is therefore expected to help identify practical opportunities for expanding economic activity and strengthening Ghana’s productive capacity.
Focus on Growth and Job Creation
A key objective of the transformation agenda is to ensure that economic progress translates into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.
Greater support for businesses, increased industrial production, expanded agricultural value chains, and improved trade opportunities could contribute to job creation and stronger economic growth.
The government’s approach also seeks to encourage more value addition within Ghana rather than relying heavily on the export of raw materials.
“The Work That Changes Lives at Scale”
The Finance Minister described the next phase of Ghana’s economic journey as the work of transformation.
He emphasized that the country must now focus on implementing policies and investments capable of producing broad-based economic opportunities and improving living conditions at scale.
The ongoing engagements with key ministries are expected to form part of efforts to translate the New Economy vision into concrete policies and programmes.
Looking Ahead
As government continues its engagements with ministries and stakeholders, attention is expected to remain on how Ghana can sustain economic stability while accelerating productive investment and inclusive growth.
The Finance Minister’s message signals a shift in emphasis—from restoring macroeconomic stability to building an economy capable of creating sustainable opportunities and improving livelihoods.
