Government Targets Delivery of First Phase of Saglemi Housing Project

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government is confident of completing and delivering the first phase of the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project by December 2027.

According to President Mahama, the initial phase will comprise 1,500 housing units, with work on an additional 3,500 units expected to begin after the completion of the first phase.

1,500 Housing Units in First Phase

The President said government is working toward ensuring that the first 1,500 units are completed within the stated timeline.

“We are sure that by December next year, the first phase of 1,500 housing units will be delivered, after which work will begin on the additional 3,500 housing units,” President Mahama stated.

The development is expected to contribute to efforts to address Ghana’s housing deficit while providing more affordable housing opportunities for citizens.

Additional 3,500 Units Planned

Following the completion of the initial 1,500 units, the government plans to commence work on another 3,500 housing units, bringing the planned total under the outlined phases to 5,000 units.

The Saglemi project has remained a major national housing initiative, with successive governments facing questions over its completion, financing, and effective utilization.

The latest commitment signals the government’s intention to revive and complete the project as part of broader efforts to expand access to affordable housing in Ghana.
