Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has described calls for a by-election in the Asante Akyem North Constituency following the arrest of Member of Parliament Ohene Kwame Frimpong as premature.

According to the Minister, the arrest or ongoing legal proceedings against the MP do not automatically mean that the parliamentary seat has become vacant.

“He Is Innocent Until Proven Guilty”

Felix Kwakye Ofosu stressed the importance of the constitutional principle of presumption of innocence, noting that Ohene Kwame Frimpong remains innocent unless and until a competent court proves otherwise.

He therefore cautioned against rushing to demand a by-election while the legal process is still ongoing.

Calls for Calm as Legal Process Continues

The comments come amid growing political discussions surrounding the arrest of the Asante Akyem North MP, with some individuals and political actors calling for steps toward a possible by-election.

However, the Government Communications Minister maintained that such calls are premature because the MP has not been convicted and the legal process has yet to reach a conclusion.

He emphasized that legal proceedings should be allowed to run their course without prejudging the outcome.

Parliamentary Seat Remains Subject to Legal Process
