Prominent National Democratic Congress (NDC) figure, Joshua Akamba, has raised concerns over what he describes as the growing “arrogance of power” within the party, warning that such attitudes could negatively affect the unity and strength of the NDC if not addressed urgently.
According to Akamba, some actions and behaviors displayed by individuals within the party and government risk creating disconnection between leadership and the grassroots supporters who contributed significantly to the party’s success.
“Arrogance of power is killing the NDC party,” he reportedly stated while speaking about internal party relations and the need for humility, accountability, and stronger engagement with supporters.
Concern Over Grassroots Disconnect
Joshua Akamba stressed that the survival and growth of every political party depend heavily on its relationship with grassroots supporters, branch executives, and loyal party members across the country.
He warned that when leaders become inaccessible or fail to appreciate the sacrifices of supporters, frustration and disappointment can begin to grow within the party base.
According to him, party members expect leadership that remains connected to ordinary people, listens to concerns, and prioritizes inclusiveness in governance and decision-making.
He further emphasized that victory in elections should not lead to complacency or superiority among party officials and appointees.
Call for Humility and Internal Reflection
Akamba called on party leaders, government officials, and appointees to remain humble and committed to the core values of the NDC, including service, unity, and respect for party structures.
He encouraged the leadership of the party to strengthen communication with supporters and ensure that grassroots members feel recognized and valued.
Political observers say the comments reflect wider discussions within political circles regarding the relationship between governing parties and their supporters after assuming power.
Some analysts believe such remarks are intended to encourage internal reflection and prevent divisions that could weaken party unity in the future.
Reactions from Supporters and Political Observers
The comments have sparked widespread reactions among party supporters, political commentators, and social media users.
While many supporters agreed with Akamba’s concerns and praised him for speaking openly about internal challenges, others argued that internal party issues should be addressed through private dialogue rather than public commentary.
Some grassroots supporters also expressed concerns about feeling neglected after elections, emphasizing the need for greater inclusion and engagement from party leadership.
Growing Conversations Within the NDC
The statement adds to ongoing conversations within the NDC about party-government relations, grassroots mobilization, and the importance of maintaining discipline and unity after returning to power.
Political analysts note that maintaining strong internal cohesion and effective communication between leadership and supporters remains critical for every governing political party.
Joshua Akamba’s remarks continue to generate debate across political and social platforms as discussions surrounding leadership style, party loyalty, and accountability remain active within Ghana’s political environment. Joshua Akamba
