Ghana’s Energy Minister, John Jinapor, has confirmed that two generation units at the Akosombo Dam are now operational following a major disruption caused by a recent fire outbreak at the facility.
The development comes amid widespread concern over power stability after the incident at the Akosombo substation knocked out significant capacity and triggered outages across multiple regions.
Engineers have been working around the clock to restore operations after the fire damaged critical infrastructure, reducing electricity supply and putting pressure on the national grid.
Government has also launched an investigation into the explosion and fire, describing the incident as serious, while prioritizing urgent restoration of power.
With two units now restored, attention shifts to the remaining four generators, which authorities say will be fixed soon as efforts intensify to stabilize electricity supply nationwide.
