Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on all Ghanaians to actively participate in nation-building, stressing that the country’s development depends on the collective efforts of citizens, institutions, and leaders working together toward a common goal.
Speaking at the June 4 Commemoration held in Banda Ahenkro, the Vice President said Ghana has made significant progress over the years but acknowledged that many challenges remain on the path to achieving sustainable development and prosperity.
“We still have far to go as a nation. We continue to encourage every citizen to play an active role in building the Ghana we all want,” she stated.
Reflecting on Ghana’s Journey
Addressing participants at the event, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted that the June 4 anniversary serves as an important reminder of Ghana’s democratic journey and the sacrifices made by previous generations in the pursuit of accountability, justice, and national progress.
She emphasized that while the country has recorded notable achievements in governance, education, healthcare, and infrastructure, there is still more work to be done to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
According to her, every Ghanaian has a responsibility to contribute positively to the nation’s development regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, religion, or social background.
Citizens Must Be Partners in Development
The Vice President stressed that government alone cannot transform the country without the support and active involvement of citizens.
She urged Ghanaians to embrace discipline, hard work, patriotism, and civic responsibility as essential values needed to move the nation forward.
“Our collective future depends on the actions we take today. Every citizen has a role to play in ensuring that Ghana continues to progress and prosper,” she said.
Call for National Unity
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also used the occasion to call for greater unity among Ghanaians, emphasizing that national development can only be achieved when citizens work together despite their differences.
She encouraged the youth to become agents of positive change by contributing innovative ideas and participating in community development initiatives.
The Vice President further urged political leaders, civil society organizations, traditional authorities, and religious groups to continue working together in promoting peace and national cohesion.
Building the Ghana We Want
According to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, the vision of a prosperous Ghana requires commitment, sacrifice, and collaboration from all sectors of society.
She reaffirmed the government’s dedication to implementing policies that promote economic growth, create jobs, improve education and healthcare, and expand opportunities for young people.
The June 4 Commemoration attracted government officials, traditional leaders, political figures, youth groups, and residents from across the Bono Region, who gathered to reflect on Ghana’s history and renew their commitment to national development.
The Vice President’s message resonated strongly with participants, serving as a call for renewed patriotism and a shared determination to build a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous Ghana for future generations. Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang
