Accra, Ghana – A group of visionary students at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has officially launched UniMAC Eye, a student-led media platform designed to amplify student voices, showcase campus achievements, and provide practical media experience for aspiring communication professionals.
The initiative, spearheaded by Hafiz Larry Alhassan, Founder and Team Lead of UniMAC Eye, was unveiled at the UniMAC South Legon Campus, where students, faculty members, and invited guests gathered to witness the birth of what organizers describe as a movement rather than just another campus media outlet.
A Vision to Tell Untold Stories Addressing participants during the launch ceremony, Hafiz Larry Alhassan said UniMAC Eye was established to bridge a communication gap within the university by documenting student activities, celebrating achievements, and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement across the campus community.
According to him, many remarkable accomplishments by students often go unnoticed despite their impact.
“Today marks the beginning of something bigger than a media platform. Today marks the beginning of a vision,” he said.
He emphasized that every student has a unique story worth sharing, adding that UniMAC Eye would ensure those stories receive the attention they deserve.
“Every student has a story worth telling. Every achiever deserves recognition. Every voice deserves to be heard,” Alhassan stated.
Providing Practical Experience for Future Media Professionals Beyond reporting campus news, UniMAC Eye aims to serve as a practical training ground for students pursuing careers in journalism, broadcasting, public relations, photography, videography, graphic design, digital marketing, and multimedia production.
Alhassan explained that the platform is designed to complement classroom learning by providing students with real-world experience before graduation.
“The UniMAC Eye project is not just about amplifying student voices. It is also about preparing students for the professional media industry,” he noted.
He added that students who actively participate in the platform would graduate with valuable portfolios and practical skills that would make their transition into professional media organizations much easier.
Building Stronger Communication Across UniMAC Organizers described UniMAC Eye as a student-centred initiative that will strengthen communication between students, faculty, university management, alumni, and the wider UniMAC community.
The platform is expected to provide regular coverage of campus events, student achievements, research projects, leadership activities, entrepreneurial ventures, and important discussions affecting students.
The initiative also seeks to promote transparency, informed dialogue, creativity, and collaboration across the university.
Meaning Behind the UniMAC Eye Logo One of the highlights of the launch was the unveiling of the official UniMAC Eye logo.
Presenting the logo, Clemencia Apaga explained that the eye-shaped design symbolizes vigilance, truth, awareness, professionalism, and responsible journalism.
“Our slogan, Eyes on Campus, Voice for Students, reflects our commitment to observing, documenting, and telling the stories that matter most to the student community,” she said.
She noted that the inclusion of the official UniMAC emblem at the centre of the logo reinforces the platform’s strong connection to the university.
Creative Journey Behind the Brand Graphic designer Dogbatse Atsu Eugene, who created the UniMAC Eye logo, shared insights into the creative process behind the design.
According to him, several concepts were explored before the final design was approved.
“We brainstormed different ideas until we created a logo that truly reflects both the eye and the identity of UniMAC,” he explained.
He described the final design as a product of teamwork, creativity, and dedication to excellence.
Students Welcome the Initiative The launch received overwhelming support from students, many of whom praised UniMAC Eye as a timely initiative capable of transforming communication across the university.
Several students expressed interest in joining the platform as reporters, presenters, photographers, editors, content creators, and social media managers.
Participants described the initiative as an excellent opportunity to gain practical industry experience while contributing positively to campus development.
A Bright Future Ahead According to Hafiz Larry Alhassan, UniMAC Eye has already begun attracting significant attention online, recording more than 10,000 views across its digital platforms even before its official expansion.
He revealed that the team plans to recruit more student contributors, introduce new programmes, strengthen partnerships with media organizations, and expand its digital presence.
“Those who are interested in joining the team, the doors are open. We have a lot of plans. Watch this space—there is more to come,” he said.
As the ceremony concluded, Alhassan officially declared UniMAC Eye launched, describing it as a movement built on truth, excellence, innovation, and student empowerment.
“Today, we unveil a movement—a movement of truth, a movement of excellence, and a movement of students,” he declared.
The launch of UniMAC Eye marks a significant milestone for student journalism at UniMAC and is expected to play an important role in shaping the next generation of Ghana’s media professionals.
