The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tolon, Hon. Braima Seidu, has led the distribution of over 2,000 mono-desks to Tolon Senior High School, with support from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), as part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure in the district.
The initiative is aimed at addressing the persistent shortage of classroom furniture, which has long posed challenges to effective teaching and learning in many schools. Students in some instances have had to share desks or sit on the floor, a situation the assembly says it is determined to eliminate.
During the presentation, Hon. Seidu reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education by investing in essential resources. He noted that providing adequate furniture is a critical step toward creating a conducive learning environment and improving academic outcomes.
“This intervention is part of a broader agenda to ensure that every child in the district has access to comfortable and appropriate learning facilities,” he said, adding that the assembly will continue to collaborate with key stakeholders to address other infrastructural gaps.
In addition to Tolon Senior High School, other schools across the district also benefited from the distribution exercise. Kasuliyili Senior High School received 1,000 desks, significantly easing pressure on existing facilities. Tali E/A Junior High School and Chirifoyili Junior High School were each provided with 200 desks, while Kpendua Junior High School received 100 desks.
Headteachers and staff of the beneficiary schools expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the desks would greatly enhance classroom management and student concentration. Some described the intervention as a “game-changer,” particularly for schools that have struggled with overcrowding and inadequate furniture for years.
Community members also lauded the DCE and GETFund for the initiative, calling for sustained investment in education across the district. They appealed for additional support in areas such as classroom blocks, teaching materials, and sanitation facilities to complement the provision of desks.
The Tolon District Assembly has indicated that it will continue to prioritize education in its development agenda, with plans to roll out more interventions aimed at improving access and quality at both the basic and secondary levels. Tolon DCE /MP
