President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut the sod for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market at Assin Bereku in the Assin North District of the Central Region, marking a significant milestone in the Government’s agenda to promote economic growth, create jobs, and expand commercial activities across Ghana.
The project forms part of the Government’s ambitious nationwide initiative to construct 261 modern markets across all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) as part of the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy Policy.
Modern Market to Transform Local Economy
The new Assin Bereku market is expected to become a major commercial hub in the Central Region, providing traders, farmers, artisans, and businesses with improved infrastructure to support round-the-clock economic activities.
The facility will feature several modern amenities designed to improve business operations and enhance the welfare of traders and customers. These include:
- A day-care centre
- A health clinic
- Cold storage facilities
- Warehouses
- A modern lorry station
- Police and Ghana National Fire Service posts
- A restaurant
- A pharmacy
- Improved sanitation facilities
- Market management offices
- 24-hour banking services
The comprehensive design is intended to create a safe, efficient, and business-friendly environment that supports continuous economic activity.
Mahama Reaffirms Commitment to Economic Transformation
Speaking during the sod-cutting ceremony, President Mahama said the market project represents Government’s commitment to building infrastructure that stimulates local economies, attracts investment, and improves livelihoods.
He noted that the 24-Hour Economy Market initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities for thousands of Ghanaians while strengthening trade and entrepreneurship in communities across the country.
According to the President, expanding modern market infrastructure remains a key component of Government’s strategy to accelerate national development, reduce poverty, and create sustainable economic opportunities.
Assin Bereku to Benefit from Increased Investment
President Mahama expressed confidence that the new market would transform Assin Bereku into an important commercial centre, attracting businesses, investors, and consumers from neighbouring districts and beyond.
He explained that the project would improve access to quality trading facilities, increase economic activity, and contribute to the long-term development of the Assin North District and the Central Region as a whole.
Government Presses Ahead with 24-Hour Economy Agenda
The sod-cutting ceremony represents another major step in the implementation of the Government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Policy, which aims to expand productivity, encourage private sector investment, and create more employment opportunities through continuous economic activity.
The nationwide construction of 261 modern markets is expected to improve market infrastructure, strengthen local economies, and provide better working conditions for traders while supporting Ghana’s broader economic transformation agenda.
