The Director-General of the, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has appealed to Ghanaians to forgive the authority for the shortcomings recorded during the ongoing African Athletics Championships hosted in Accra.
Speaking during an interview on Starr Chat, the NSA boss admitted that there were challenges and organizational difficulties during the competition but assured the public that lessons have been learned for future sporting events.
“Hopefully, Ghanaians will forgive us for the shortfalls at the African Athletics Championships,” he stated.
The African Athletics Championships, hosted in Accra 2026, has attracted athletes and officials from across the continent.
However, the event has also faced criticism from some athletes, officials, and sports fans over concerns relating to accommodation, feeding arrangements, transportation, and general event coordination.
Several social media users and sports analysts have expressed disappointment over some of the reported incidents during the championship.
Yaw Ampofo Ankrah acknowledged the concerns raised by the public and emphasized that the National Sports Authority remains committed to improving Ghana’s sports administration and international event management.
According to him, hosting a continental event of such magnitude comes with challenges, but authorities are working hard to address all issues and ensure a successful competition.
He further assured athletes, participating countries, and stakeholders that measures are being taken to improve conditions and maintain Ghana’s image as a hospitable sporting destination.
The statement by the NSA Director-General has generated mixed reactions among Ghanaians, with some people appreciating his honesty and willingness to admit mistakes.
Others, however, believe the challenges could have been avoided with better planning and preparation ahead of the championship.
Despite the criticism, many sports lovers continue to support Team Ghana and the ongoing competition, hoping for better organization in future international sporting events hosted by the country.
