Majority Leader Calls for Former Finance Minister to Return and Address Allegations
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has called on Ghanaians to demand accountability from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to Ayariga, the NPP must ensure that Ken Ofori-Atta returns to address matters concerning his tenure in office, insisting that accountability is a critical component of democratic governance.
Speaking on the issue, the Majority Leader argued that if the former Finance Minister has nothing to fear, he should return to Ghana and respond to any questions or allegations through the appropriate legal and institutional processes.
“Ghanaians should demand from the NPP that if they don’t produce Ken Ofori-Atta, they should never come back to ask for power again. If he has nothing to fear, he should man up and come back to defend himself,” Mahama Ayariga stated.
The comments add to ongoing political discussions surrounding the former minister and his role in managing Ghana’s economy during his time in office.
Ayariga also questioned the Minority’s ability to criticize the current administration’s economic management and flagship programmes.
According to him, the opposition lacks the moral authority to comment on the economy because of what he described as the economic challenges inherited by the current government.
He argued that the present administration remains focused on implementing policies aimed at economic recovery, job creation, and national development.
The remarks are expected to fuel further debate between the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition NPP over issues of accountability, economic performance, and governance.
Political observers note that discussions surrounding Ken Ofori-Atta continue to attract national attention due to his central role in shaping Ghana’s economic policies during the previous administration.
Governance advocates have consistently emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in public service, regardless of political affiliation.
The latest comments by the Majority Leader are likely to keep public attention focused on issues relating to economic management and the responsibilities of former public officials.
As political discussions continue, many Ghanaians are closely monitoring developments surrounding the former Finance Minister and broader debates about the country’s economic direction.
Observers expect accountability, governance, and economic performance to remain major issues in Ghana’s political discourse in the coming years.
