Motorists along the Kasoa–Winneba highway are set to experience noticeable relief in the coming weeks as major sections of the road project are expected to be opened to traffic within a month.
The long-delayed but steadily progressing upgrade is now in its final stages of execution, with contractors focusing on asphalt surfacing, drainage completion, and finishing works along key stretches of the road.
A recent inspection of the project by President John Dramani Mahama highlighted government satisfaction with the current pace of work. He assured commuters that the inconvenience they have endured will soon give way to improved road conditions.
“I understand the frustrations faced by commuters, but help is on the way,” he said. “The contractor is doing good work, and we expect the project to be completed by December or, at the latest, the first quarter of next year.”
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, explained that the consistent progress on the project reflects a broader government strategy that prioritizes continuity in infrastructure development. He emphasized that the policy ensures that no inherited road project is abandoned, regardless of administration changes.
He further disclosed that over GH₵12 billion has been paid to road contractors since 2025, enabling steady work progress on multiple road projects across the country.
The Kasoa–Winneba corridor, one of the busiest transport routes linking Accra to the Central Region, is expected to see significant improvements in traffic flow once the project is fully completed.
Authorities believe the upgraded highway will not only reduce travel delays but also enhance road safety and boost economic activities along the stretch, particularly for traders, commuters, and transport operators who rely heavily on the route daily.
