Godwin Ako Gunn, Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to democratic accountability, stating that the NDC welcomes constructive criticism but will firmly resist deliberate misinformation and propaganda targeted at the party and its members.
Speaking on the current political climate, Mr. Ako Gunn emphasized that criticism and scrutiny are essential elements of democracy and should be encouraged when aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and national development.
“The NDC is not afraid of criticism; we welcome constructive scrutiny. But we will not tolerate deliberate falsehoods, character assassination, and coordinated propaganda,” he stated.
According to him, the party remains focused on engaging Ghanaians through honest political dialogue and issue-based communication rather than divisive narratives and personal attacks.
Mr. Ako Gunn noted that while political disagreements are natural in every democratic society, the intentional spread of false information and coordinated propaganda campaigns poses a threat to healthy democratic engagement and informed public discourse.
He further stressed that the NDC would continue to defend its image and respond appropriately to what he described as attempts to distort facts and tarnish the reputation of the party and its leadership.
The Deputy National Communications Officer also urged political communicators, supporters, and members of the public to promote responsible commentary and verify information before sharing it, especially on social media platforms where misinformation spreads rapidly.
He reiterated the NDC’s commitment to promoting policies and ideas that address the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians, adding that the party remains focused on governance, economic recovery, youth empowerment, and national unity.
Mr. Ako Gunn’s remarks come at a time of intensified political debate in Ghana, with parties increasingly engaging the public on governance issues, accountability, and preparations for future electoral activities.
