National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has passionately called for justice for party supporters who lost their lives during the 2020 and 2024 general elections, warning that failure to address political violence could threaten Ghana’s democratic future.
Speaking during the NDC “Thank You Tour” at Nyankpala in the Northern Region, popularly known as “General Mosquito” assured party youth and supporters that the leadership of the NDC remains fully committed to ensuring accountability through the courts and security institutions.
“We are fighting the same battle. I shared the pain with you on the death of our comrade in Nyankpala here and in other constituencies during the 2020 and 2024 elections. If we don’t get justice for them, it will affect us when we return to seek your support in 2028,” he stated.
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah stressed that despite the NDC’s massive victory in the 2024 general elections, the party must never ignore the pain and sacrifices of supporters who allegedly lost their lives during political activities.
According to him, celebrating electoral success without pursuing justice for victims would be unfair to affected families and dangerous for Ghana’s democracy.
“The fact that we won the election massively in 2024 should not make us swollen-headed so we forget to seek justice for those who were murdered,” he emphasized.
The NDC Chairman warned that continuously allowing unresolved political violence cases to fade away could encourage future acts of violence during elections.
“We shouldn’t always say the sleeping dog should be allowed to rest. Tomorrow, others can also be killed,” he cautioned.
Asiedu Nketiah assured supporters that he remains determined and “eye red” in the fight for justice, adding that the party would continue to push security agencies and the judicial system to ensure accountability.
He noted that justice for victims of election-related violence is not only important for the NDC but also crucial for protecting Ghana’s democratic system and safeguarding citizens during future elections.
Political analysts say his comments reflect growing concerns over electoral violence and increasing calls for stronger action against politically motivated attacks.
The remarks drew loud applause from supporters and youth groups gathered at the event, many of whom praised the NDC Chairman for openly speaking about justice and accountability.
Some party faithful described his comments as a sign that the NDC leadership remains connected to the grassroots and committed to defending the interests of ordinary supporters.
Others also urged authorities to reopen investigations into unresolved election-related incidents across the country.
The NDC “Thank You Tour” continues to attract large crowds across various regions as party leaders engage supporters following the party’s victory in the 2024 elections.
Observers say the latest comments by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah could further intensify national discussions surrounding political violence, justice, and electoral accountability in Ghana.
As the country looks ahead to future elections, many citizens continue to call for peaceful political participation and stronger protection of democratic rights for all Ghanaians. Asiedu Nketiah
