Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle and newly elected Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has described her elevation to the continental leadership role as a proud moment for Ghana.
Speaking upon her arrival in Ghana after her election, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings noted that the achievement reflects Ghana’s longstanding contribution to African unity, democratic governance, and regional cooperation.
“This is the second time in the last two decades that Ghana has held a position in the top hierarchy of the Pan-African Parliament, so this is a huge honour for our country,” she stated.
According to her, the position presents an important opportunity for Ghana to contribute more actively to conversations surrounding peace, development, economic cooperation, youth empowerment, and democratic accountability across the African continent.
The Pan-African Parliament, an organ of the African Union, was established to ensure greater participation of African peoples in governance and economic integration. The institution works with member states to promote policies aimed at strengthening democracy, human rights, and sustainable development across Africa.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ election is being seen by many as a major diplomatic and political milestone for Ghana, reaffirming the country’s influence within continental institutions. Political analysts and supporters have also praised her appointment as recognition of her contributions to parliamentary work, international relations, and advocacy on issues affecting women and young people.
Her new role as Second Vice President will involve supporting the leadership of the Pan-African Parliament in coordinating legislative activities, strengthening collaboration among African states, and advancing the institution’s broader agenda for continental progress.
The Klottey Korle legislator further expressed appreciation to Ghana’s delegation and supporters across the continent for the confidence reposed in her, pledging to serve diligently and uphold Ghana’s reputation on the African stage.
