Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has visited victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Police Barracks in Accra Central, assuring affected families of government’s commitment to supporting their recovery and rebuilding efforts.
The Vice President was accompanied by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, and other government officials during the visit, which followed the devastating incident that displaced dozens of families and caused extensive damage to property.
48 Households Affected by Fire
Briefing the Vice President on the situation, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak revealed that a total of 48 households were affected by the fire disaster.
According to him, while some displaced residents are currently staying with relatives and friends, government agencies are working to provide temporary accommodation and essential relief support for those in need.
The Minister noted that ongoing interventions are aimed at ensuring that affected families receive the assistance required to recover from the tragedy.
Government Expresses Sympathy
During her interaction with residents, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang conveyed government’s deepest sympathies and solidarity to the victims.
She acknowledged the emotional, social, and economic impact of the fire, particularly on women, children, and vulnerable members of the affected households.
The Vice President assured residents that government would continue working closely with relevant institutions to provide support throughout the recovery process.
Call for Full Investigation
Professor Opoku-Agyemang also called for a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the fire outbreak.
She emphasized the need to strengthen safety measures, emergency preparedness, and fire prevention protocols to help avoid similar incidents in the future.
According to her, lessons learned from the disaster should be used to improve public safety standards and protect lives and property.

The Vice President praised the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Police Service, and other emergency response agencies for their swift and professional handling of the situation.
