Accra, Ghana – June 2026 – President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled a key pledge made during the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) by donating six months of his basic salary to support the initiative aimed at assisting Ghanaians in need of specialist medical treatment.
The President’s contribution was accompanied by donations from government appointees, who collectively contributed one month of their basic salaries toward the fund.
The combined contribution totaled GHS 6,102,737.80, demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting citizens facing serious health challenges and reducing the financial burden associated with specialized healthcare.
The donation was officially presented to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund on Monday by Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), Nana Oye Bampoe Addo.
Mahama Fulfills Promise to Support Healthcare Initiative
The contribution fulfills a commitment President Mahama made during the launch of the MahamaCares initiative, which seeks to provide financial assistance to individuals requiring expensive specialist medical care that may be beyond the reach of many families.
The Fund is expected to play a significant role in improving access to critical healthcare services for vulnerable Ghanaians and strengthening social protection within the healthcare sector.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, expressed gratitude for the contribution and praised the President and government appointees for demonstrating leadership and commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians.
She noted that the support would contribute significantly toward helping patients who require specialized medical interventions and treatment.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting citizens battling serious health conditions.
